FIRST COUNTRY WITH A HANDLING GUIDE FOR THE TREATMENT OF CHIKUNGUNYA

The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance today presented the guide for the management and treatment of chikungunya with what becomes the first country in the Americas region that works a guide for care in public and private service centers.

The health minister, Dr. Freddy Hidalgo Núñez, explained that the guide establishes the guidelines for the adequate care of the people affected in the home and how to identify signs and symptoms of alarm.

Hidalgo Núñez stressed that the guide also establishes the guidelines for early detection and the opportunity for treatment, according to the individual needs that arise.

He also indicated that the guide or protocol of care for the treatment of chikungunya is the main source of information for the entire health system of the country.

For her part, the representative of the Pan American Health Organization, PAHO, Dr. Lilian Reneau Vernon congratulated the Dominican Republic for being the first country in the region of the Americas to develop a guide for the treatment of chikungunya.

Reneau Vernon said that, with the incorporation of the care guide for the cases of Chikungunya Dominican Republic, it is placed as a reference for the countries that could be affected by the epidemic.

Likewise, he valued as positive that the guide that will be used by medical personnel of the country has emanated from a panel of experts composed of technicians from the Ministry of Public Health, specialized medical societies and consultants of the Pan American Health Organization.

The Guide for Managing the Chikungunya Virus will be delivered to public and private health services next Wednesday.

The announcement of the new guide for the management of chikungunya was announced by the minister of health during the meeting of the National Commission of Surveillance that integrate it in addition to the health authorities, the institutions of the water sector, the ministries of education, Tourism, Defense, the Dominican Federation of Municipalities and the Dominican Medical Association.

Also, specialized health societies, among other institutions.
